July 9th & 10th Recap

Z3 stormed the nation this last weekend with races from Iowa to Missouri. Athletes began their weekend on Saturday in Waterloo, IA for the Ironkids race. Not only did Z3 have great individual results, but they won the team competition as well. On the women’s side, Steph Jenks came out with a blistering performance that resulted in first overall, men and women: “Everything seemed to go right, and I felt smooth the whole time.”  Next to the line in 2nd-4th was Jenn Jenks, Hannah Thomas, and Katie Patrick, all qualifying for Ironkids US Championship. Other Z3 athletes that raced were Michaela Weeks (7), Sidney Epp (8), Lexi Horner (10), Anna Beltowski (11), and Sydney Clark (13).  For the men, Kyle Kato led with 2nd place, followed by Kevin Kato in 5th, qualifying him for the US Championship in his first triathlon. In regards to his day, Kevin said, “I think that the bike and run went well, but my swim needs more work.” Other racers included Ben Nelson (13), Max Oberman (16), Hank Weresh (22), and Preston Doerrfeld (24).

Sunday, athletes raced in their backyard at the Iowa Games triathlon. Again, Z3 dominated with titles from both the men and women. TJ Gleason took the men’s title while Bailey Eppard ran her way to first place. Tianna Berard also finished strong four minutes behind Eppard. The Z3 junior males took hold of the age group ranks with 1st-4th place: Lincoln Eppard, Hank Mandsager, Jack Oberman, and Zach Wood. For the youth, Michael Riordan finished 2nd in his age group.

The weekend concluded with the New Town Triathlon in New Town, MO. On Sunday, Austin Hindman took the title for men 19 and under.
