Standout Americans Matt Chrabot, Jarrod Shoemaker and Tommy Zaferes will return to ITU World Triathlon Series action in Sweden this weekend with the debut of the sprint-distance ITU World Triathlon Stockholm on Saturday.
Then, following Saturday’s event, the U.S. will field a team of two men and two women in Sunday’s ITU Triathlon Mixed Relay World Championships. Tanelle Berard (Clive, Iowa) and Lindsey Jerdonek (Northfield, Ohio) will be joined by two of the three men racing Saturday’s individual event to comprise the U.S. relay entry. The U.S. men’s relay participants will be selected following Saturday’s race.
The relay teams will compete in the order of female-male-female-male. Each athlete will complete a 300m swim, 6k bike and 2k run. After each athlete finishes his or her swim-bike-run segment he or she will tag the next athlete in the relay to make the exchange. Relay action will begin at 8:45 a.m. Eastern Sunday. Visit triathlon.org for a complete preview.
The U.S. team was fifth at the same event in Lausanne, Switzerland, a year ago.

Featuring a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run, the men’s race will take place at 8:50 a.m. Eastern Saturday with a live stream of the action available via triathlonlive.tv. Visit triathlon.org for an event preview and a complete men’s start list.
Both USA Triathlon National Team members, Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) and Chrabot (Aptos, Calif.) enter the Stockholm race as the No. 1 and No. 3 Americans in the ITU World Triathlon Series rankings, respectively. Shoemaker is 24th overall and is coming off a 27th-place finish in Hamburg last month, while Chrabot stands 35th overall in the WTS rankings and placed 30th last time out in Hamburg.
A member of the USA Triathlon Project 2016 program, Zaferes (Soquel, Calif.) was 17th at the Banyoles ITU World Cup and placed fifth at the sprint-distance Cremona ITU European Cup in his last ITU action in June.
No U.S. women are scheduled to compete in the individual event.
Following this weekend’s action in Stockholm, the ITU World Triathlon Series resumes with the seventh of eight events – the ITU World Triathlon Yokohama on Sept. 29-30.
