Z3 athlete, Aleena Villani, finished seventh out of 48 competitors in the female 16-19 non-draft legal sprint division at the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Grand Final on Friday, September 13, 2013, at Hyde Park in London.
“Racing internationally was an experience like no other, meeting a lot of new people and being able to relate and share that experience with them was so much fun,” said Villani. “It was helpful learning from Tamara’s race the previous day and having them there to cheer me on was great! Crossing the finish line safe and knowing that all the hard work, dedication and sacrifice you put in comes down to that very moment, is bittersweet.”
Villani, a junior at Tremper High School in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, finished the swim-bike-run with an overall time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 24 seconds. She was the second-fastest American in her age division, trailing only overall champion Malia Ellington (1:11:42).
“It was very nice being able to look forward to a little getaway afterwards. After a hectic week and many months of hard training I was ready to relax. Visiting Paris and Rome was a challenge but well worth it, they are two of the most beautiful places I have ever been,” added Villani. “Last but not least, Positano, Italy, was my favorite. It’s a breath taking place. I was definitely dreaming for two weeks! I wouldn’t have been able to get there if it wasn’t for many wonderful people. Thank you to everyone who helped me get to where I am today!”
Villani qualified for the 2013 TEAM USA team by competing in Burlington, Vermont in August 2012.
Congratulations on a successful season and race, Aleena!
